  • Concealed shelving and integrated television storage
  • Brass-toned base and handle detailing

A matching pair designed around the fireplace

This Putney Heath project uses two tall bespoke cabinets to frame the fireplace and create a balanced fitted composition. Although the cabinets share the same exterior language, their internal functions are different.

The matching proportions and finish allow the pair to read as one coordinated design while keeping the central fireplace visually dominant.

The demanding part: symmetry with different internal functions

A paired arrangement makes differences in height, width and alignment particularly visible. The outer frames, base details and front margins therefore need to remain consistent across both cabinets.

At the same time, each interior has to accommodate a different storage requirement without changing the closed appearance of the matching exteriors.

Concealed shelving and television storage

One cabinet opens to reveal practical shelving and storage, while the other incorporates a television within the internal arrangement. Closing the doors returns both pieces to the same restrained furniture-led appearance.

This approach keeps technology and everyday storage concealed when not required while preserving a formal, symmetrical room composition.

Material and metal detailing

Close photographs show the textured dark finish, framed fronts and brass-toned details used at the handles and lower supports. These lighter metal elements provide contrast without competing with the darker cabinetry.

The relationship between the frame, door margins and metal details is important because the strong vertical proportions make small inconsistencies easy to notice.

The finished result

The completed pair combines concealed storage and media functions within a coordinated architectural arrangement around the fireplace. The cabinets remain visually consistent when closed while serving different practical roles internally.
