Design, fitting and craftsmanship details

  • Full-height mirrored wall
  • Dark floating display shelf
  • Compact decorative composition
  • Clean wall-mounted installation

A compact feature built into the wall

This Earls Court installation combines a dark floating display shelf with a full-height mirrored wall, creating a strong visual feature without adding bulky cabinetry.

The mirror expands the perceived depth of the space while the shelf provides a practical surface for decorative objects.

The demanding part: alignment against mirror

Mirror makes junctions and alignment particularly visible because every edge is reflected. The shelf therefore needs to sit level and cleanly against the mirrored surface.

The reflected geometry also makes the relationship between the shelf, wall panels and surrounding door opening more noticeable than it would be against a plain painted wall.

Keeping the composition visually light

The shelf is deliberately wall-mounted with no visible floor support, allowing the mirrored wall to remain continuous below it.

This keeps the feature visually light while still giving the hallway a defined focal point.

The finished result

The completed feature uses a small amount of joinery to create a strong architectural effect through contrast between the dark shelf and reflective wall.
