A full-wall media and display composition

This Northwood installation combines the television with open display shelving and concealed storage across a large section of wall. The dark timber finish gives the furniture a strong presence while the open grid prevents the elevation from feeling too solid.

The television is integrated into the overall shelving composition rather than treated as a separate object.

The demanding part: keeping a large grid visually controlled

The design uses repeated vertical divisions, horizontal shelves and illuminated display sections. Across a wall-scale installation, any inconsistency in spacing or alignment would be immediately visible.

The television opening also has to sit naturally within the wider grid so it feels part of the furniture rather than interrupting it.

Display lighting within the shelving

Warm integrated lighting highlights selected open niches and creates contrast against the darker timber finish. The lighting also helps separate display zones from the deeper shelving around the television.

Because the illuminated sections are viewed directly, the relationship between shelf edges, internal panels and lighting positions becomes part of the visual finish.

Open display above concealed storage

The upper part of the unit is predominantly open and display-led, while the lower cabinetry provides concealed storage behind darker fronts. This keeps everyday storage out of view without making the entire wall visually heavy.

The angled room view shows how the shelving continues across the wall and relates to the adjacent window and seating area.

The finished result

The completed TV unit combines media, display and concealed storage functions within one dark timber composition. Warm lighting and open shelving break up the scale of the wall and give the installation more depth.
